ROME (Reuters) - The Sixth Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court today upheld the acquittal for former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said on
one of the statutory leader of Forza Italy.
"It was time. Twelve years have passed since the beginning of this process, in which Silvio Berlusconi was crucified, has been vilified around the world and now it's finally was crystallized his innocence, "he told Reuters Berlusconi's lawyer Niccolo Ghedini.
In the morning, Attorney General of the Supreme Court had requested in his Oscar Cedrangolo indictment confirmation of absolution for the former premier.
On 27 April, Berlusconi was acquitted by the Court of Appeal of Milan in the process of carving each SME in which the leader of Forza Italy was accused of corruption in judicial acts.
In the process there were two strands d ' charge: the alleged systematic corruption of the former head of the investigating judge Renato Squillante Romans and the alleged corruption of the same Squillante and other Roman magistrates to obtain favorable rulings in the dispute with the legal Cir Carlo De Benedetti for the acquisition of food group SME public IRI in the mid 80s.
